Missing proper AQL Search & Board in Jira Assets?
Making AQL in Jira Assets Easier with Visual Boards and Rovo Agents
If you’re using Jira Assets, you’ve probably run into challenges when working with AQL queries and reporting.
We’ve seen community posts about these issues — such as searching across all object types in a schema (JSDCLOUD-9908) or saving queries for reuse (JSDCLOUD-10829). These limitations make everyday tasks like audits, inventory checks, or dependency mapping more difficult than they should be.
And we’ve felt those pains ourselves.
Common AQL Struggles
Here are some of the challenges our team kept running into:
Spending too much time hunting for the exact object type or attribute, or fixing typos in AQL.
Large result sets that were hard to filter or explore — often forcing us to click through asset types one by one.
Schema mismatches that slowed down even experienced admins.
Why Confluence Assets Macro Wasn’t Enough
Atlassian offers the Confluence Assets Macro as one option for reporting. While useful, we found it wasn’t the full solution:
It only works with one schema per macro, which makes cross-schema audits or dependency mapping cumbersome.
It’s great for static reports in Confluence, but less useful for dynamic exploration directly in Jira.
Queries aren’t easily reusable. Sharing them often meant copying macros or recreating pages, and adjusting columns could reset settings by accident.
Our Solution - AQL Helper For Jira Assets
Since we couldn’t find a solution that fully fit, we decided to extend Jira Assets with our own app — combining a Visual Board and a Rovo Agent.
AQL Helper for Jira Assets turns your natural language questions into precise AQL queries, so you can find, filter, and analyse your assets without writing a single line of code.
Whether you’re managing hardware inventory, tracking licenses, or auditing compliance, AQL Helper understands your schema, prepares the correct AQL, and shows you the results in seconds.
Rovo Agent in Action
Ask questions in natural language and let Rovo Agent instantly build the right AQL query. See the matching Jira Assets without knowing AQL syntax.
AQL Helper Board
When your search returns more than the set limit, open the AQL Helper Board to view and explore all matching assets in a clean table or use it directly to search with AQL across schemas and to save filters.
Simple, Smart Configuration
Set your default schema and max results. The agent automatically uses these settings to deliver accurate queries and faster answers.
Built on Forge!
Powered by Atlassian’s secure Forge platform, the AQL Helper for Jira Assets runs fully within Atlassian’s cloud infrastructure.
Enjoy built-in data protection, zero maintenance, and seamless integration with Jira. No external servers or configurations required.
Let's talk about your use cases and ideas
The pool of possible use cases is almost unlimited. We believe that almost every task in Jira or Confluence done manually today can, at least to some degree, be automated with Rovo. And there are still possibilities we don’t even know yet — ones we will discover later as we adopt the AI-led way of working.
What is your experience? What use cases would you like to automate with Rovo? What worked for you, and what difficulties have you encountered? We would very much like to share this with you, and that is why we organize the Atlassian Rovo in Practice: Interactive Online Workshop. It is not a webinar but a place for discussion and sharing of experiences. During the sessions we have already held, we heard many interesting ideas for utilizing Rovo and also shared our own experience and insights.
If you are curious about Rovo and would like to talk about possibilities for your use case, feel free to register for one of the available timeslots. If none of them works for you, please let us know via comment or message what date and time would fit you, and we can try to arrange that.
